February NASTT Chair’s Message
Happy 2013 everyone! I am so honored to be your NASTT Chair and am ready to get started! We have exciting and significant work ahead of us in 2013, I am looking forward to working with the NASTT administration, membership and trenchless community to achieve them.
As we start the New Year, I first want to welcome the three new members to the NASTT Board of Directors: Dr. Erez Allouche,
Trenchless Technology Center; Larry Kiest Jr., LMK Enterprises; and Tony Hranicka, ConEdison. I also want to introduce the
2013 NASTT Executive Officers: Vice Chair, Kim Staheli, P.E., Staheli Trenchless; Secretary, Jennifer Glynn, P.E., RMC Water and Environment; and Treasurer, Dave Krywiak, P.Eng., Stantec Consulting Ltd. What exceptional talent and experience each individual brings to our outstanding NASTT team. This group will no doubt provide unique perspective to their roles.
As we welcome our new leaders, I also want to extend my thanks and gratitude to those Board Members and Officers whose terms ended in December 2012 for their invaluable service to NASTT. I also want to thank outgoing NASTT Chair George Ragula, who devoted so much tremendous energy and effort over the last two years to ensure the continued success and growth of NASTT through countless initiatives, partnerships and programs — he is a true advocate of trenchless technology and NASTT! I look forward to his continued advice to help keep NASTT moving forward in a positive direction.
NASTT has many objectives in 2013. I wish I had the space to detail each of them, because they all are imperative to the success of NASTT. I did want to update you on the progress of the NASTT Carbon Calculator as it moves forward Phase II, which is well under way with the development of a web-based and user-friendly carbon calculator. In October 2012, the NASTT Board approved this second phase as a standalone NASTT initiative. A working model is anticipated for review and testing in 2013. I believe that the carbon calculator will be extremely valuable to our members, as it is intended to reinforce an image of trenchless technology as a “green” alternative to traditional pipe installation methods.
The Carbon Calculator is just one of the many benefits NASTT members enjoy and that NASTT is happy to provide. I want to take a moment to remind you of all the benefits available to you with your NASTT membership so you can take full advantage of them. NASTT membership provides trenchless professionals the tools and services they need to be better informed and better connected in this industry. NASTT’s bimonthly newsletter, our quarterly magazine and Web-based tools such as our website (nastt.org) connecting you to the latest technical papers and job openings. Your membership also offers you the best networking opportunities through NASTT’s No-Dig Show and our Good Practices workshops. NASTT wants to make you the most-informed trenchless professional.
As I write this, NASTT’s 2013 No-Dig Show is just around the corner. I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Sacramento, California — our first trip to the West Coast since 2007. The 2013 NASTT No-Dig Program Committee has created a phenomenal educational conference that you won’t want to miss.
